Describe your blog in fifteen words or less:
A beauty and lifestyle blog from Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Why did you start your blog?
I get this question a lot and to be honest, I can’t really remember why I started. I created A Pop of Colour in 2011 as a hobby since I would watch a lot of YouTube beauty videos. Although I do love filming and editing (I went to school for communications and broadcasting), I know how much work it is putting together videos so I thought a blog would be a little easier. I thought it would be something fun to do on the side when I’m not at my full-time gig.

What do you love posting about on your blog?
Although I mainly post about beauty, I’ve actually been really into lifestyle and travel posts lately. I’m very fortunate that I get to travel often, so I’ve been doing more trip recaps that have been gaining traction. Whenever I travel now I love looking up blogs to see the best places to go to in that city (and the most #InstaWorthy) rather than your typical Trip Advisor review. I love sharing with my readers the things I did and the places I highly recommend they check out. I figure if I’m looking for it online, others are too.

What is your favourite post?
Back in April 2017 I did a post on lip fillers and what the experience is like. I’ve been getting them done for a while now and I since I had so many questions prior to getting them done the first time, I thought a post would help others in making the decision to get them or not. I was a little skeptical about sharing the experience since I feel like plastic surgery still has a little bit of a stigma around it, but I’m so glad I did. I watched so many YouTube videos the first time I got them done and I was so scared about what the process would be like/what it feels like after, so I was really excited to share all that with my readers. That post has quickly become one of my most popular, and I usually get a ton of traffic from the pinned images on Pinterest.

What is your #1 tip for others looking to start a beauty blog?
Keep at it! I feel like whenever people start a blog, regardless of if it’s beauty or not, they are really gung-ho to begin with, then start to taper off after a week or so. The market is so saturated with beauty blogs right now that to keep readers coming back you really have to make sure you are producing consistent content. I post Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but it’s definitely a commitment to get content up on time. Maybe sit down on a Sunday and bang something out, or be like me and work on your blog through your lunch hour if you work at an office. Any time I can sit down and do a post, I try to get it done because I’m constantly busy with other things. In the end though, having a blog has really given me so many opportunities that I wouldn’t have otherwise had, so it’s been so worth those long hours and passing up going to Starbucks with coworkers at lunch. It’s a lot of work, but it’s such a fun ride; just stay with it!
