Describe your blog in fifteen words or less:
Beauty reviews, swatches on dark skin, & frank but fun discussions of sexual and mental health. (I cheated – an ampersand isn’t a word, right?!)
Why did you start your blog?
I’ve always loved beauty. I used to watch a lot of YouTubers and read a lot of blogs by people who didn’t look like me. They’d recommend a “nude” lipstick and I’d go to the department store to try it, and I’d find that it wasn’t nude on me. When I found a shade or formula that worked for my dark skin and curly hair, I wanted to shout it from the rooftops. Now I do – but the rooftop is digital!
What do you love posting about on your blog?
In the last few years I’ve been doing more lifestyle content, and I find that that has let me show my personality more, which has made my beauty posts even more “me” as well.
What is your favourite post?
I’m super proud of my Fenty Beauty review post! I love the products, I love the Fenty effect (broader foundation shade ranges from the get-go, please!), I love Rihanna. It’s a win-win-win.
What is your #1 tip for others looking to start a beauty blog?
When reading other people’s blogs and scrolling through Instagram, I like bright and clear photography, I like reading more personal posts, and I like seeing swatches and products in use, so that’s the kind of content I try to include on my blog. My advice, then, is to create the kind of content that you would want to read. It works in real life, too. Be someone you’d want to be friends with.
