Describe your blog in fifteen words or less:
Beauty by Birdy is a mix of beauty, healthy recipes and life updates.
Why did you start your blog?
I started my blog for a couple of reasons:
1. I was in need of a hobby to fill some spare time and I wanted an outlet that allowed me to be creative and write without restrictions. Beauty by Birdy lets me write about what I want to write about, in a narrative style that I enjoy. There are no rules and I absolutely love that!
2. It was no secret that I enjoyed playing with makeup, and friends and family began approaching me for advice or product suggestions. Starting a blog seemed like an easy way to share my thoughts and opinions.
Now I like to consider it my digital diary. I share a little bit of everything and I love being able to look back at previous posts and milestones.
What do you love posting about on your blog?
Lately I’ve been really into skincare – trying new products and posting reviews. But over the years I’ve found my love for different blog posts has varied. At one point I really enjoyed trying nail art. I also went through a phase where I focused a lot of attention on my #HealthyBirdy section, posting a bunch of healthy recipe ideas.
I think it’s normal for interests to change as time goes on, but one thing that has remained consistent is my love for testing beauty products and different makeup techniques.
What can I say? My name is Kelly and I’m addicted to beauty…
What is your favourite post?
I did a makeup look inspired by the Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino a couple of years ago and it was totally out of my comfort zone. It had colour. It had sparkle. There were lashes!! I absolutely loved how it turned out and to this day, looking at those photos makes me smile. It ended up being such a vibrant and cheerful look.
What is your #1 tip for others looking to start a beauty blog?
There’s no room for improvement if you begin with perfection. I think the thing with blogging is you have to be open to being somewhat bad before you get better. But don’t think you have to have the best camera, editing software, pre-set, or website right off the bat. Those things will come and improve as you go along and learn.
Also…don’t fall victim to ‘imposter syndrome’. Use other people’s work as inspiration, not intimidation.
I think the most important thing is to find your voice and post regularly. Be consistent, but be patient when it comes to growth.
So check out Kelly’s blog, you won’t regret it! Go to Beauty by Birdy!
